Job Overview

The Senior Chemical Process Engineer will lead the design, optimization, and scale‑up of chemical processes for BASF Ethiopia’s new production facility in Dessie. Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible operations that align with global best practices. This role involves close collaboration with cross‑functional teams, including R&D, safety, quality, and supply chain, to deliver high‑performance processes that meet customer specifications and regulatory requirements. As a key member of the engineering department, you will play a pivotal role in driving continuous improvement initiatives, implementing digital tools for process monitoring, and mentoring junior engineers. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and engineering of new chemical processes, from concept through pilot testing to full‑scale production.

• Develop and validate process safety analyses, including HAZOP and LOPA studies, ensuring compliance with local and international regulations.

• Implement process control strategies using advanced process control (APC) and data analytics to enhance operational stability.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of chemical engineering principles, thermodynamics, and reaction engineering.
• Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, CHEMCAD).
• Experience with process safety management and regulatory compliance.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering is required. A Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related field is highly desirable. Experience

Minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience in chemical process design, scale‑up, and operation within the petrochemical, specialty chemicals, or related industries. Prior experience in a senior engineering role, leading multi‑disciplinary teams, and managing large‑scale projects is essential.

Salary
