Job Overview

The Head of Network Security will lead Huawei’s security strategy for its Ethiopian network portfolio, ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of all data and services. Reporting directly to the Regional Security Director, the role involves designing, implementing, and managing comprehensive security frameworks that protect against evolving cyber threats. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a holistic network security strategy aligned with corporate and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead a team of security engineers, analysts, and consultants, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Conduct risk assessments, vulnerability assessments, and penetration testing across all network assets.
  • Implement advanced security technologies such as next‑generation firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and security information and event management (SIEM) platforms.
  • Collaborate with product development, operations, and legal teams to integrate security controls into new services and solutions.
  • Monitor security incidents, lead incident response activities, and produce detailed post‑incident reports.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of global cyber‑threat landscape, standards (ISO 27001, NIST), and Ethiopian telecom regulations.
  • Prepare and present security metrics, dashboards, and executive briefings to senior leadership.
  • Drive security awareness training programs for internal staff and external partners.
  • Manage relationships with third‑party security vendors and service providers.

Required Skills

  • Deep expertise in network security architecture, protocols, and encryption technologies.
  • Proven leadership and people‑management abilities, with experience leading multidisciplinary security teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, capable of handling complex security incidents.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for interacting with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Hands‑on experience with firewalls (e.g., Palo Alto, Fortinet), IDS/IPS, VPN, and cloud security solutions.
  • Certification such as CISSP, CISM, or CCNP Security is highly desirable.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of Amharic is an advantage.

Education

A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Cybersecurity, or a related discipline is required. Candidates with equivalent professional experience and certifications may also be considered.

Experience

Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in network security, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership or managerial role within the telecommunications sector or a comparable industry.

Salary
