Job Overview

The Marine Renewable Energy Project Manager will be responsible for the end‑to‑end delivery of offshore and marine renewable energy projects, from feasibility studies through to commissioning and handover. Reporting to the Regional Director, the manager will coordinate multidisciplinary teams, manage stakeholder relationships, and ensure compliance with local regulations and international standards. This position plays a pivotal role in Ørsted’s mission to accelerate the transition to clean energy in Ethiopia, supporting Employment in Ethiopia and Hiring in Ethiopia initiatives. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, finance, legal, and community liaison teams to drive project success while maintaining the highest standards of safety and environmental stewardship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, execution, monitoring, and closure of marine renewable energy projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to quality specifications.
  • Develop detailed project schedules, resource plans, and risk management frameworks, aligning with Ørsted’s global project management methodology.
  • Coordinate with local authorities, coastal agencies, and community stakeholders to secure permits, conduct environmental impact assessments, and foster positive relationships.
  • Oversee procurement of marine turbines, foundations, cables, and related equipment, ensuring compliance with technical specifications and sustainability criteria.
  • Manage multidisciplinary project teams, including engineers, marine biologists, procurement specialists, and contractors, promoting collaboration and high performance.
  • Monitor project financials, track expenditures, and provide regular reporting to senior management and investors.
  • Implement health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies, conducting regular audits and ensuring zero‑incident culture.
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer and capacity building for local partners and suppliers, supporting the growth of Ethiopia’s renewable energy ecosystem.

Required Skills

  • Strong leadership and team management abilities with experience leading large, complex projects.
  • In‑depth knowledge of marine renewable technologies, offshore wind, wave, or tidal energy systems.
  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project) and data analysis tools.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills for stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to navigate Ethiopian regulatory frameworks and international maritime standards.
  • Problem‑solving mindset with a focus on innovative, sustainable solutions.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Marine Engineering, or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree in Renewable Energy, Project Management, or a related field is highly desirable.

Experience

Minimum of five (5) years of proven experience managing renewable energy projects, with at least two (2) years focused on offshore or marine environments. Experience in Ethiopia or similar emerging markets is an advantage.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from 250,000 to 350,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based bonuses, health insurance, and retirement benefits.
