Job Overview
The AI Ethics Officer will lead IBM Ethiopia’s efforts to embed ethical principles into the design, development, and deployment of artificial intelligence solutions for clients across Ethiopia. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain AI ethics policies, guidelines, and standards aligned with Ethiopian regulations and global frameworks.
- Conduct ethical risk assessments for AI projects, identifying potential bias, fairness, transparency, and privacy concerns.
- Collaborate with data scientists, engineers, and product managers to integrate ethical considerations throughout the AI lifecycle.
- Provide training and workshops for internal teams and client organizations on responsible AI practices.
- Monitor emerging AI regulations, standards, and industry trends, updating internal policies accordingly.
- Advise senior leadership on ethical implications of AI initiatives and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Lead the creation of documentation, impact assessments, and audit reports for AI deployments.
- Engage with external stakeholders, including regulators, academia, and civil society, to promote responsible AI adoption in Ethiopia.
Required Skills
- Deep understanding of AI ethics principles, fairness metrics, and bias mitigation techniques.
- Strong knowledge of data privacy laws in Ethiopia and international standards such as GDPR and ISO/IEC 42001.
- Excellent analytical and critical‑thinking abilities to evaluate complex AI systems.
- Effective communication skills for translating technical concepts into clear, actionable guidance for non‑technical audiences.

Education

Experience
Minimum of five years of professional experience in AI ethics, responsible AI, data governance, or related compliance roles. Prior experience in consulting or a multinational technology firm is advantageous.
Salary
