Position Summary
The Accountant will be responsible for maintaining financial records, processing payments, ensuring compliance with donor guidelines, preparing payroll, supporting audits, reconciling bank statements, and maintaining financial accountability for organizational projects.
The role requires strong financial accuracy, compliance awareness, organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively within humanitarian and NGO operational standards.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Financial Management & Accounting
- Ensure all project expenditures comply with approved budgets, donor regulations, and organizational finance policies
- Process financial vouchers with supporting documents such as invoices, receipts, payment requests, and authorization letters
- Verify financial documents for accuracy, completeness, and approval compliance
- Code, post, and analyze financial transactions within accounting systems
- Maintain accurate accounting records and financial documentation
Payroll & Staff Financial Administration
- Maintain updated employee payroll records and personnel financial data
- Process monthly payroll according to organizational policies and Ethiopian labor regulations
- Update staff payroll records by adding new employees and removing exited staff upon authorization
- Supervise cashier activities and monitor petty cash balances
Budgeting & Financial Reporting
- Participate in annual budget preparation and strategic planning processes
- Prepare financial reports and ensure timely submission of required documentation
- Record all program financial transactions according to reporting requirements
- Monitor budget utilization and financial compliance
Taxation & Compliance
- Ensure proper remittance of withholding tax (WHT), income tax, pension contributions, and statutory obligations
- Maintain compliance with donor financial regulations and internal organizational procedures
- Follow up on payable and receivable accounts to ensure accountability and accuracy
Stock & Bank Reconciliation
- Maintain finance stock records and reconcile inventory with bin cards regularly
- Conduct monthly reconciliation of organizational bank accounts and financial books
- Ensure unused official vouchers and financial documents are properly registered and stored

Education Requirements
Applicants must possess:
- BA Degree in Accounting or Accounting & Finance
- Professional accounting certifications will be considered an added advantage
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of relevant accounting experience
