Job Overview

The Senior Agronomy Data Analyst will lead the integration of agronomic research and data analytics to develop actionable insights for farmers, dealers, and internal product teams. This role will collaborate closely with field agronomists, software engineers, and business strategists to design data‑driven solutions that enhance crop yields, optimize input usage, and support sustainable farming practices. Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain advanced agronomic data models that incorporate satellite imagery, sensor data, and field trial results.
• Analyze large datasets to identify trends, risk factors, and opportunities for yield improvement across diverse Ethiopian agro‑ecological zones.
• Collaborate with product development teams to translate analytical findings into actionable recommendations for equipment and software solutions.
• Lead the creation of interactive dashboards and visualizations for internal stakeholders and external partners.
• Mentor junior analysts and provide technical guidance on statistical methods, machine learning techniques, and data governance.
• Ensure data quality, integrity, and compliance with local regulations and international best practices.
• Publish research findings in industry journals and present insights at conferences, enhancing John Deere Ethiopia’s thought leadership.

Required Skills

• Proficiency in statistical programming languages such as R or Python, with a focus on data manipulation and modeling.
• Experience with GIS tools (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS) and remote sensing data processing.
• Strong understanding of agronomic principles, crop physiology, and Ethiopian farming systems.
• Ability to communicate complex analytical concepts to non‑technical audiences.
• Project management expertise, including timeline development and cross‑functional coordination.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of Amharic or Oromo is an advantage.

Education

A Master’s degree in Agronomy, Agricultural Engineering, Data Science, Statistics, or a closely related discipline is required. Candidates with a Ph.D. or equivalent research experience will be given preference.

Experience

Minimum of eight years of professional experience in agronomic research, data analytics, or precision agriculture, preferably within the African context. Demonstrated experience leading data‑driven projects and delivering measurable outcomes is essential.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary range of SSP 250,000 to 350,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based incentives may be provided.
