Job Overview

The Soil Health Analyst will join the Research & Development department to lead scientific investigations that improve soil fertility, structure, and microbial activity across diverse Ethiopian agro‑ecologies. This role involves designing field trials, analyzing soil samples, and translating data into actionable recommendations for farmers and internal product development teams. The successful candidate will collaborate with agronomists, data scientists, and extension officers to drive evidence‑based practices that support resilient farming systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement soil health monitoring programs across pilot farms in the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples’ Region.
• Collect, process, and analyze soil samples using laboratory and field‑based techniques, including nutrient profiling, organic matter assessment, and microbial diversity sequencing.
• Develop predictive models to link soil parameters with crop performance, integrating data into Corteza’s digital agronomy platform.
• Prepare technical reports, scientific publications, and farmer‑focused extension materials that communicate findings in clear, actionable language.
• Collaborate with product development teams to inform the formulation of new seed treatments and soil amendments.
• Provide training and mentorship to junior analysts and field staff on best practices in soil sampling and data interpretation.
• Support sustainability initiatives by evaluating the impact of conservation agriculture practices on soil health.

Required Skills

• Proficiency in soil science methodologies, including pH, CEC, texture analysis, and microbiome sequencing.
• Strong statistical analysis skills using R, Python, or SAS for data modeling.
• Experience with GIS tools and spatial data visualization.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for diverse stakeholder audiences.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple field projects simultaneously.
• Knowledge of Ethiopian agricultural policies and extension services is a plus.

Education

The candidate must hold at least a Bachelor’s degree in Soil Science, Agronomy, Environmental Science, or a closely related discipline. A Master’s degree or Ph.D. is highly desirable, especially for candidates with a focus on sustainable land management or agro‑ecology.

Experience

Applicants should have 3‑5 years of hands‑on experience conducting soil health assessments, preferably within the Ethiopian context or similar agro‑ecological zones. Experience working with farmer groups, NGOs, or governmental agricultural programs will be considered an advantage.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary range of SSP 180,000 to 250,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and incentives are also part of the compensation package.
