Job Overview
The Senior Precision Agriculture Engineer will lead the design, implementation, and optimization of data‑driven farming solutions for large‑scale commercial farms and cooperatives in Ethiopia. Reporting to the Head of Agronomy, the engineer will collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including product development, sales, and field services, to deliver integrated precision platforms that align with John Deere’s global standards. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and customize precision agriculture strategies using GPS, IoT sensors, and data analytics for diverse crop systems.
- Lead field trials, collect agronomic data, and analyze results to refine algorithms and decision‑support tools.
- Provide technical training and on‑site support to farmers, dealers, and extension agents.
- Collaborate with the R&D department to adapt global technologies to Ethiopian agro‑ecological conditions.
- Prepare detailed project proposals, budgets, and progress reports for senior management.
- Ensure compliance with local regulations and sustainability standards.
Required Skills
- Strong expertise in precision farming technologies, GIS, and remote sensing.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R for data analysis.
- Excellent problem‑solving abilities and a data‑driven mindset.
- Effective communication skills in English and Amharic.
- Leadership experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to travel across Ethiopia for field deployments.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Engineering, Agronomy, or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications in precision agriculture, GIS, or data science are highly preferred.
Experience
Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in precision agriculture, farm management systems, or related engineering roles. Prior experience in the Ethiopian agricultural sector or similar emerging markets is advantageous.
Salary
The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary ranging from SSP 250,000 to 350,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based incentives are available.
