Job Overview

The Wind Turbine Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and safety of wind turbines operating in the Hawassa wind farm and surrounding sites. This role involves routine inspections, troubleshooting, corrective maintenance, and coordination with cross‑functional teams to implement preventive strategies. The engineer will work closely with local technicians, project managers, and Vestas global support networks to deliver world‑class service standards. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct scheduled and unscheduled inspections of wind turbine components, including gearboxes, generators, blades, and control systems.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults using diagnostic tools and Vestas proprietary software.
• Execute corrective maintenance tasks on‑site, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and manufacturer guidelines.
• Develop and implement preventive maintenance plans to reduce unplanned outages and extend turbine lifespan.
• Collaborate with the Operations & Maintenance team to analyze performance data and recommend optimization measures.
• Maintain detailed service reports, maintenance logs, and spare parts inventory records.
• Provide technical mentorship to junior technicians and support their skill development.
• Coordinate with the supply chain department to ensure timely availability of critical spare parts.
• Participate in root‑cause analysis investigations for recurring issues and propose engineering solutions.
• Ensure all activities adhere to local regulations, Vestas safety standards, and environmental guidelines.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of wind turbine mechanical systems, hydraulics, and electrical controls.
• Proficiency with diagnostic equipment such as vibration analyzers, infrared thermography, and SCADA systems.
• Excellent problem‑solving abilities and capacity to work under pressure.
• Effective communication skills for reporting findings to multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and maintenance manuals.
• Commitment to safety culture and adherence to HSE procedures.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of Amharic is an advantage.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Vestas Certified Maintenance Engineer (VCME) or equivalent are highly desirable.

Experience

Minimum of five (5) years of hands‑on experience in wind turbine maintenance or a comparable heavy‑industry environment, with a proven track record of reducing downtime and improving turbine availability.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary range of SSP 250,000 to 350,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, along with performance‑based incentives.
