Job Overview
The Senior Structural Design Engineer will lead the design and analysis of major structural components for Bechtel’s upcoming projects in Ethiopia, including bridges, public facilities, and industrial complexes. This role involves collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, ensuring compliance with local and international codes, and delivering cost‑effective, resilient designs that meet client expectations. The successful candidate will act as a technical mentor, drive innovation, and uphold Bechtel’s standards of excellence throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the structural design process from concept through detailed design for large‑scale infrastructure projects.
- Perform advanced structural analysis using software such as SAP2000, ETABS, and STAAD.Pro.
- Coordinate with architects, civil engineers, geotechnical specialists, and construction teams to integrate design solutions.
- Ensure designs comply with Ethiopian Building Code, Eurocode, and other relevant standards.
- Prepare and review construction drawings, specifications, and calculation reports.
- Mentor junior engineers, conduct design reviews, and provide technical guidance.
- Support procurement by preparing technical specifications and evaluating vendor proposals.
- Participate in site inspections and construction monitoring to verify design intent.
- Identify value‑engineering opportunities to optimize cost, schedule, and sustainability.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation and contribute to project knowledge management.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in structural analysis and design software (SAP2000, ETABS, STAAD.Pro, or equivalent).
- Strong understanding of reinforced concrete, steel, and composite structures.
- Excellent problem‑solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration.
- Leadership experience in managing design teams.
- Knowledge of BIM workflows and clash detection tools.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining high quality.
- Fluency in English; knowledge of Amharic is an advantage.
Education
A Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related discipline from an accredited university is required. Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or equivalent certification is highly desirable.
Experience
Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive experience in structural design of large infrastructure projects, with at least three (3) years in a senior or lead role. Experience working on projects in Ethiopia or similar emerging markets is a strong plus.
Salary
The position offers a competitive salary range of 250,000 to 350,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and relocation assistance may be provided.
