Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Hydrology Modeler to join our technical team in Dire Dawa. This role is essential for understanding the complex groundwater and surface water dynamics in the region. You will be responsible for developing, calibrating, and simulating hydrological models to inform large-scale water management projects. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain complex numerical groundwater and surface water models using industry-standard software.
- Analyze historical rainfall, streamflow, and groundwater level data to predict future water availability.
- Collaborate with field engineers to integrate real-time sensor data into existing hydrological models.
- Provide technical guidance to junior hydrologists and field technicians during data collection phases.
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports for government stakeholders and international donors.
- Assess the impact of climate change scenarios on local water basins and aquifer recharge rates.
Required Skills
- Advanced proficiency in MODFLOW, MIKE SHE, or similar hydrological modeling software.
- Expertise in GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and spatial data analysis.
- Strong mathematical modeling and statistical analysis capabilities.
- Excellent technical writing skills for producing high-level scientific reports.
- Ability to communicate complex technical findings to non-technical stakeholders.
Education
A minimum of a Master’s Degree in Hydrology, Water Resources Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related Earth Science discipline is required. A PhD in a specialized hydrological field is highly preferred.
Experience
Candidates must possess at least five years of professional experience in hydrological modeling, preferably within the development or environmental consultancy sectors. Proven experience working in East Africa or with international NGOs is a significant advantage. You should have a track record of managing large datasets and delivering complex modeling projects on schedule.
Salary
The monthly salary for this position ranges from 45,000 SSP to 75,000 SSP, depending on the candidate’s expertise and technical proficiency.
