Job Overview

The Senior Hydrology Modeler will play a critical role in our technical assessment and planning phase for large-scale water infrastructure projects. This role involves using advanced computational models to simulate groundwater flow, surface water movement, and the impact of climate change on local water tables. You will be responsible for providing the scientific foundation upon which our community interventions are built. By accurately predicting water availability and quality, you ensure that our projects are sustainable for generations to come. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain complex numerical groundwater and surface water models to support water security initiatives.
  • Analyze historical rainfall and hydrological data to predict future water availability under various climate scenarios.
  • Collaborate with field engineers to validate model outputs with real-world sensor data and borehole measurements.
  • Prepare technical reports and feasibility studies for government stakeholders and international donors.
  • Provide technical oversight for the installation of automated water monitoring systems in remote regions.
  • Integrate GIS data with hydrological models to create spatial visualizations of water scarcity risks.

Required Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in hydrological modeling software such as MODFLOW, HEC-RAS, or MIKE SHE.
  • Strong expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial data analysis.
  • Deep understanding of hydrogeology and the mechanics of aquifer recharge and depletion.
  • Excellent technical writing skills for producing high-level scientific documentation.
  • Ability to translate complex mathematical findings into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders.

Education

A minimum of a Master’s Degree in Hydrology, Water Resources Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related Earth Science discipline is required. A PhD in a specialized hydrological field is highly preferred.

Experience

Candidates must possess at least 5 years of professional experience in hydrological modeling, preferably within an international development or environmental consultancy context. Proven experience working in East Africa or with similar geological formations is a significant advantage. You should have a track record of managing large datasets and delivering complex technical projects on schedule.

Salary

The monthly salary for this position ranges from 45,000 to 65,000 SSP, depending on the candidate’s specific expertise and technical certifications.
