Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Hydrological Engineer to lead our technical assessments and design sustainable water infrastructure projects in the Dire Dawa region. This role is critical for ensuring that our water interventions are scientifically sound, environmentally sustainable, and resilient to climate change. The successful candidate will manage complex hydrological data, oversee groundwater and surface water modeling, and provide technical leadership to field teams. Key Responsibilities

• Lead complex hydrological modeling and groundwater assessment projects to inform water resource management strategies.
• Design and oversee the implementation of sustainable water supply systems, including boreholes, piped networks, and rainwater harvesting.
• Conduct detailed field surveys and technical assessments to determine water availability and quality in target areas.
• Collaborate with government agencies and local stakeholders to ensure alignment with national water policies and standards.
• Provide technical supervision and mentorship to junior engineers and field technicians during project execution.
• Prepare comprehensive technical reports, feasibility studies, and environmental impact assessments for large-scale water projects.

Required Skills

• Advanced proficiency in hydrological modeling software such as MODFLOW, HEC-RAS, or similar tools.
• Strong understanding of groundwater hydraulics, surface water dynamics, and hydrogeology.
• Excellent project management skills with the ability to handle multiple technical workstreams simultaneously.
• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities regarding complex water resource challenges.
• Strong communication skills in English and local languages to facilitate community engagement and stakeholder reporting.

Education

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or Hydrology is required. A Master’s degree in a related engineering discipline is highly preferred and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.

Experience

Candidates must possess at least 5 years of progressive experience in hydrological engineering or water resource management. Proven experience working in international development or humanitarian contexts is highly desirable. Experience in the East African region, specifically Ethiopia, is a significant plus for this role.

Salary

The monthly salary for this position ranges from 45,000 to 65,000 SSP, depending on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, and technical expertise.
