Job Overview

The Risk Compliance Officer will be responsible for designing, implementing and monitoring compliance programs that align with local regulations, international standards and Ecobank’s internal policies. Working closely with the Risk Management, Legal and Audit teams, the officer will ensure that all banking activities adhere to anti‑money laundering (AML), counter‑terrorist financing (CTF), sanctions, and other regulatory requirements. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, update and enforce compliance policies, procedures and controls specific to banking operations in Ethiopia.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, gap analyses and compliance reviews to identify potential vulnerabilities.
  • Monitor transactions for AML/CTF indicators using advanced monitoring tools and report suspicious activities to the relevant authorities.
  • Collaborate with the Legal department to interpret new regulations and ensure timely implementation.
  • Prepare and submit regulatory filings, reports and disclosures to the National Bank of Ethiopia and other supervisory bodies.
  • Lead internal training sessions on compliance awareness, ethical standards and regulatory changes.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of compliance activities, audit findings and corrective action plans.
  • Provide expert advice to business units on risk‑based decision making and regulatory implications.
  • Support external auditors during examinations and respond to audit queries promptly.
  • Stay abreast of global best practices, emerging risks and technological advancements in compliance.

Required Skills

  • In‑depth knowledge of Ethiopian banking regulations, AML/CTF frameworks and international compliance standards such as Basel III and FATF.
  • Strong analytical and investigative abilities with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Amharic; proficiency in Afaan Oromo is a plus.
  • Proficiency with compliance monitoring software and data analytics tools.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks and meet tight deadlines.
  • High ethical standards and a commitment to confidentiality.

Education

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Law, Business Administration or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Certified Anti‑Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS), Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP) or equivalent are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.

Experience

Applicants must have at least five (5) years of hands‑on experience in risk compliance, AML/CTF monitoring, or regulatory affairs within a reputable banking or financial institution. Experience in the Ethiopian market, familiarity with the National Bank of Ethiopia’s regulatory environment, and a proven track record of implementing effective compliance programs are essential.

Salary

The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary ranging from 120,000 to 180,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and other incentives are part of the total remuneration package.
