Job Overview
The Renewable Energy Storage Systems Engineer will lead the design, implementation, and optimization of battery energy storage systems (BESS) for utility‑scale and commercial projects. Reporting to the Head of Renewable Engineering, the role involves collaborating with cross‑functional teams to ensure seamless integration of storage solutions with solar, wind, and hydro assets. The engineer will be responsible for technical feasibility studies, system modeling, performance analysis, and compliance with local regulations. Key Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive BESS designs, including electrical schematics, control architecture, and safety systems.
- Conduct load flow, short‑circuit, and stability studies to assess grid impact and optimize storage dispatch strategies.
- Coordinate with solar and wind engineering teams to ensure seamless hybrid system integration.
- Prepare technical specifications, vendor evaluation criteria, and procurement packages for batteries, inverters, and balance‑of‑system components.
- Lead on‑site installation supervision, commissioning, and performance testing to verify compliance with design parameters.
- Create operation and maintenance manuals, and provide training to local O&M personnel.
- Monitor system performance post‑commissioning, analyze data trends, and recommend upgrades or corrective actions.
- Ensure all designs meet Ethiopian Energy Authority standards and international safety codes such as IEC 62933.
- Collaborate with finance teams to develop cost‑benefit analyses and support project financing proposals.
- Represent GE Ethiopia at industry conferences, workshops, and stakeholder meetings to promote renewable storage solutions.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in power system simulation tools (e.g., PSS®E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, HOMER).
- Strong understanding of battery chemistries, thermal management, and lifecycle performance.
- Experience with SCADA integration, PLC programming, and communication protocols (Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850).
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills for technical reporting and stakeholder engagement.
- Project management experience, including scheduling, budgeting, and risk mitigation.

Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., PMP, PE, or IEC 61850) are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.
Experience
Minimum of five (5) years of hands‑on experience designing, installing, or managing large‑scale battery energy storage projects. Prior exposure to Ethiopian grid conditions, renewable integration, or utility‑level projects will be viewed favorably.
Salary
The competitive compensation package ranges from 250,000 to 400,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based incentives and allowances may be offered.
