Job Overview
The Network Operations Center (NOC) Engineer will be a key member of the Network Operations team, responsible for monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing the performance of Ethio Telecom’s core network infrastructure. This role ensures high availability, reliability, and security of voice and data services across the country. The engineer will work closely with cross‑functional teams, including network design, field engineering, and security, to deliver seamless connectivity for millions of users.
As part of the NOC, you will be the first line of defense against network incidents, employing advanced monitoring tools and analytical techniques to detect, diagnose, and resolve issues before they affect customers. Key Responsibilities
- Monitor real‑time network performance using NOC tools and dashboards.
- Identify, diagnose, and resolve network faults, outages, and performance degradations.
- Coordinate with field engineers for rapid fault isolation and remediation.
- Maintain incident logs, generate post‑incident reports, and recommend preventive actions.
- Implement network configuration changes and software upgrades in accordance with change management procedures.
- Collaborate with security teams to detect and mitigate cyber‑threats targeting network assets.
- Participate in capacity planning, performance tuning, and network optimization initiatives.
- Provide on‑call support for after‑hours emergencies and participate in on‑call rotation.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of IP networking, MPLS, BGP, OSPF, and routing protocols.
- Experience with network monitoring platforms (e.g., SolarWinds, Nagios, PRTG).
- Proficiency in troubleshooting Layer 2/3 issues and packet analysis using Wireshark.
- Familiarity with telecom equipment from vendors such as Cisco, Huawei, Nokia, and Ericsson.
- Understanding of network security concepts and incident response.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making abilities.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced environment.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, JNCIA, or equivalent are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.
Experience
Applicants must have a minimum of 3 to 5 years of hands‑on experience in network operations, NOC environments, or telecom service assurance. Prior experience with large‑scale carrier networks and exposure to 4G/5G technologies will be viewed favorably.
Salary
The monthly salary range for this position is 150,000 – 250,000 SSP, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and performance. Additional performance‑based incentives and allowances may be offered.
