Job Overview

The Legal Counsel will join the corporate legal team in Nekemte, providing expert advice on a wide range of commercial matters, including contract negotiation, regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and dispute resolution. Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial contracts, including supply agreements, joint venture documents, and service contracts.
  • Provide legal advice on regulatory compliance, licensing, and statutory obligations specific to Ethiopia.
  • Support corporate governance activities, including board meetings, shareholder communications, and corporate filings.
  • Conduct legal research and produce memoranda on emerging legal issues affecting the firm’s clients.
  • Assist in dispute resolution, including mediation, arbitration, and litigation support.
  • Collaborate with international counsel on cross‑border transactions and ensure alignment with global standards.
  • Develop and maintain a repository of standard contract templates and legal policies.
  • Train internal stakeholders on legal risk management and compliance best practices.

Required Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Amharic; knowledge of Afaan Oromo is a plus.
  • Proven negotiation skills and the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
  • Solid understanding of Ethiopian commercial law, corporate law, and international trade regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Education

The candidate must hold a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from a recognized university. An advanced degree such as an LLM, particularly with a focus on corporate or international law, is highly desirable. Experience

A minimum of five years of relevant experience in corporate or commercial law, preferably within a multinational law firm or an in‑house legal department, is required. Experience handling cross‑border transactions, regulatory compliance, and dispute resolution will be viewed favorably.

Salary
