Job Overview
The Energy Storage Systems Engineer will lead the design, integration, and optimization of utility‑scale battery systems that store renewable electricity generated from solar and wind farms throughout Ethiopia. Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will collaborate with cross‑functional teams—including product development, project management, and field operations—to ensure that storage solutions meet performance, safety, and regulatory standards. This position plays a pivotal role in supporting Ethiopia’s energy transition, enhancing grid stability, and enabling greater penetration of renewable resources. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end‑to‑end engineering of battery storage projects from concept through commissioning.
- Develop detailed system designs, electrical schematics, and integration plans for lithium‑ion and emerging battery chemistries.
- Perform performance modeling, thermal analysis, and safety assessments to ensure compliance with Ethiopian standards.
- Coordinate with procurement and supply chain teams to source components and manage vendor relationships.
- Support field installation teams, providing technical guidance and troubleshooting during construction and testing phases.
- Collaborate with software engineers to integrate energy management systems and remote monitoring platforms.
- Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
- Stay abreast of global trends in energy storage technology and recommend innovative solutions for the Ethiopian market.
Required Skills
- Strong expertise in power electronics, battery management systems, and grid integration.
- Proficiency with simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, PSpice, or ETAP.
- Hands‑on experience with large‑scale battery installations and commissioning.
- Excellent problem‑solving abilities and analytical mindset.
- Effective communication skills in English; knowledge of Amharic is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and lead multidisciplinary teams.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or relevant certifications (e.g., IEC 62619, IEEE Power & Energy Society) are highly desirable.
Experience
Minimum of five years of professional experience designing, integrating, or managing utility‑scale energy storage systems, preferably within emerging markets.
Salary
The competitive salary range for this position is SSP 250,000 – 350,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
