Job Overview

The Agricultural Finance Officer will be responsible for evaluating, structuring, and managing loan portfolios that support smallholder farmers, agribusinesses, and value‑chain projects across Ethiopia. Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze financial statements, cash flow projections, and agricultural production plans to determine loan eligibility.
  • Conduct on‑site assessments of farms and agribusiness facilities to verify collateral and operational viability.
  • Structure loan products tailored to seasonal cash flows, value‑chain financing, and risk mitigation needs.
  • Monitor loan performance, manage arrears, and implement corrective actions in collaboration with borrowers.
  • Prepare detailed credit proposals and present recommendations to the Credit Committee.
  • Collaborate with agronomy experts to integrate sustainability criteria into financing decisions.
  • Maintain accurate records in the bank’s credit management system and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

Required Skills

  • Strong analytical abilities with proficiency in financial modeling and risk assessment.
  • In‑depth knowledge of Ethiopian agricultural practices, value chains, and market dynamics.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills for interacting with farmers, cooperatives, and senior management.
  • Ability to work independently in remote field locations and manage multiple portfolios.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel, and familiarity with banking software.
  • Commitment to sustainable finance and understanding of ESG principles.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, or a related discipline is required. Advanced certifications such as CFA, CPA, or a Master’s degree in Agricultural Finance are advantageous and demonstrate a higher level of expertise.

Experience

Applicants should have 3‑5 years of proven experience in agricultural lending, credit analysis, or financial advisory within the agribusiness sector. Experience working with smallholder farmer groups, cooperatives, or agribusiness supply chains in Ethiopia or similar emerging markets is highly valued.

Salary
