Job Overview

The Head of Digital Payments will lead the design, implementation, and management of the bank’s digital payment platforms, including mobile wallets, online transfers, and QR‑code solutions. Reporting directly to the Chief Digital Officer, you will be responsible for developing a secure, scalable, and user‑friendly payment infrastructure that aligns with regulatory standards and market demands. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the digital payments strategy in line with the bank’s overall digital transformation roadmap.
  • Oversee the end‑to‑end lifecycle of digital payment products, from concept through launch and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with the National Bank of Ethiopia regulations, anti‑money‑laundering (AML) policies, and cybersecurity standards.
  • Collaborate with IT, risk, marketing, and operations teams to deliver seamless, secure, and high‑performance payment solutions.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as transaction volume, adoption rates, and fraud detection metrics, and report insights to senior leadership.
  • Lead vendor negotiations, manage third‑party integrations, and maintain strong relationships with fintech partners.
  • Drive innovation by evaluating emerging technologies like blockchain, AI‑based fraud detection, and open banking APIs.

Required Skills

  • Deep expertise in digital payments ecosystems, including mobile money, online banking, and POS systems.
  • Strong knowledge of payment security standards (PCI‑DSS, ISO 27001) and risk management frameworks.
  • Proven leadership abilities with experience managing cross‑functional teams.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills, with a data‑driven decision‑making approach.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Fluency in English and Amharic; additional language skills are a plus.

Education

A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Computer Science, or a related discipline is required. A master’s degree or professional certifications such as Certified Payments Professional (CPP) or Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) are highly desirable.

Experience

Minimum of eight years of progressive experience in digital payments, fintech, or related financial services, with at least three years in a senior leadership role. Demonstrated success in launching and scaling digital payment products in emerging markets is essential.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from 300,000 to 500,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and profit‑sharing incentives are also part of the total rewards.
