Job Overview
The Chief Data Governance Officer will lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of data governance frameworks that ensure data quality, privacy, security, and regulatory compliance across all Google Ethiopia operations. This senior role reports directly to the Regional Director of Operations and collaborates with cross‑functional teams including Engineering, Legal, Compliance, and Business Intelligence. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and enforce enterprise‑wide data governance policies, standards, and procedures.
- Lead a multidisciplinary data governance council to align data initiatives with business objectives.
- Ensure compliance with Ethiopian data protection regulations and international standards such as GDPR and ISO 8000.
- Oversee data quality programs, including data profiling, cleansing, and master data management.
- Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to manage data risk assessments and incident response.
- Implement data lineage and metadata management tools to provide transparency across data pipelines.
- Mentor and train data stewards, analysts, and engineers on best practices.
- Report governance metrics to senior leadership and provide actionable insights.
Required Skills
- Deep expertise in data governance, data quality, and data privacy frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of Ethiopian data protection law and international compliance standards.
- Proficiency with data cataloging, metadata management, and master data management tools (e.g., Collibra, Alation).
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management abilities.
- Strategic thinking with a proven track record of driving enterprise‑wide data initiatives.

Education
A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Business Administration, or a related discipline is required. Relevant certifications such as CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional) or CIPP/E (Certified Information Privacy Professional/Europe) are highly desirable.
Experience
Minimum of ten years of progressive experience in data governance, data management, or related fields, with at least five years in a senior leadership role. Experience within a multinational technology environment and familiarity with cloud‑based data platforms (Google Cloud, BigQuery) are essential.
Salary
The compensation package ranges from SSP 500,000 to SSP 800,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based bonuses, health insurance, and retirement benefits.
