Job Overview
The Environmental Compliance Specialist will play a pivotal role in ensuring SGS Ethiopia’s clients adhere to national and international environmental standards. This position is ideal for a proactive professional passionate about sustainability and regulatory frameworks. The role involves conducting audits, providing consultancy, and developing strategies to minimize environmental impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct environmental audits and assessments for clients in manufacturing, agriculture, and energy sectors.
- Develop and implement compliance strategies aligned with Ethiopian Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) regulations.
- Provide training and guidance to clients on waste management, pollution control, and biodiversity conservation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design sustainability reports and ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) frameworks.
- Monitor emerging environmental policies and advise clients on adaptation and risk mitigation.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in environmental compliance, preferably in East Africa.
- Strong knowledge of Ethiopian environmental laws and ISO 14001 standards.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in using GIS and environmental data analysis tools.
- Fluency in English and Amharic.
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline. A Master’s Degree is a plus.
Experience
3-5 years of experience in environmental compliance, preferably with a focus on industrial or agricultural sectors in Ethiopia.
Salary
150,000 – 250,000 ETB per month, depending on experience and qualifications.
