Job Overview

The Senior Environmental Compliance Manager will lead Shell Ethiopia’s compliance strategy, ensuring all operations meet Ethiopian environmental regulations, international standards, and internal sustainability policies. Reporting to the Head of Sustainability, the role involves developing, implementing, and monitoring compliance programs, conducting audits, and advising senior leadership on risk mitigation. The manager will act as the primary liaison with government agencies, NGOs, and community stakeholders, promoting transparent communication and proactive environmental stewardship. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and oversee comprehensive environmental compliance programs across all Shell Ethiopia sites.
  • Conduct regular internal audits and inspections to verify adherence to Ethiopian environmental laws, ISO 14001, and Shell’s internal standards.
  • Prepare and submit accurate regulatory reports, permits, and documentation to relevant authorities in a timely manner.
  • Lead investigations of environmental incidents, develop corrective action plans, and ensure root‑cause analysis is completed.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and legal teams to integrate compliance requirements into project designs and operational procedures.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of evolving environmental legislation, industry trends, and best practices.
  • Represent Shell Ethiopia in external stakeholder meetings, community forums, and industry conferences.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for staff on environmental policies, risk management, and sustainable practices.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual compliance performance reports for senior management and corporate sustainability committees.

Required Skills

  • Deep understanding of Ethiopian environmental regulations, permitting processes, and international standards (ISO 14001, GRI).
