Job Overview

The Senior Broadcast Journalist will lead the creation, production and delivery of news stories for television and digital platforms. Reporting directly to the News Editor, the role involves investigative reporting, live anchoring, field reporting and editorial decision‑making. Key Responsibilities

• Research, investigate and produce high‑impact news packages for TV broadcast and online streaming.
• Conduct live interviews, field reporting and on‑site coverage of breaking events across Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa.
• Write clear, concise scripts and edit video footage to meet tight deadlines.
• Collaborate with producers, editors, camera crews and digital teams to ensure cohesive storytelling.
• Mentor junior reporters, providing guidance on journalistic ethics, sourcing and technical skills.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of regional political, economic and social developments.
• Uphold Al Jazeera’s editorial standards, ensuring accuracy, balance and impartiality.
• Participate in editorial meetings, contributing story ideas and strategic insights.

Required Skills

• Exceptional verbal and written communication in English; proficiency in Amharic or another local language is a plus.
• Strong news judgment, investigative instincts and ability to work under pressure.
• Proficiency with video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro) and newsroom management systems.
• Experience with live‑broadcast equipment, satellite links and remote reporting tools.
• Ability to build and maintain reliable sources across government, NGOs, business and civil society.
• High ethical standards and commitment to journalistic integrity.
• Team‑player mindset with leadership potential.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Mass Media or a related discipline is required. Advanced certifications or a Master’s degree in International Relations, Political Science or a similar field are advantageous.

Experience

Minimum of five years of professional experience in broadcast journalism, preferably with exposure to African or Middle‑Eastern news environments. Demonstrated track record of producing award‑winning or widely recognized news stories is highly desirable.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary ranging from 250,000 to 350,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and performance. Additional performance‑based bonuses may be awarded.
