Job Overview

The Power Systems Planning Engineer will play a pivotal role in designing, analyzing, and optimizing Ethiopia’s power generation and transmission networks. Reporting to the Head of Power Planning, you will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to develop long‑term capacity expansion plans, conduct load forecasting, and ensure grid stability. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain comprehensive power system models using industry‑standard software (e.g., PSS®E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory).
• Perform load flow, stability, and contingency analyses to assess grid performance under various scenarios.
• Prepare long‑term generation and transmission expansion plans aligned with national energy strategies.
• Collaborate with renewable energy teams to integrate solar, wind, and hydro projects into the existing grid.
• Conduct economic feasibility studies and cost‑benefit analyses for proposed infrastructure projects.
• Support the preparation of technical reports, feasibility studies, and regulatory submissions.
• Coordinate with transmission operators, distribution utilities, and external consultants to ensure data accuracy and project alignment.
• Monitor system performance indicators and recommend corrective actions to improve reliability.

Required Skills

• Proficiency in power system analysis tools (PSS®E, PowerWorld, DIgSILENT).
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills for presenting technical findings to stakeholders.
• Knowledge of Ethiopian power market regulations and renewable integration standards.
• Ability to work independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams.
• Project management experience is a plus.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a closely related field is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., CPEE, PMP) are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.

Experience

Minimum of five (5) years of hands‑on experience in power system planning, load forecasting, or grid stability analysis. Experience within a utility, independent system operator, or consulting firm serving the African energy sector is preferred.

Salary

The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary ranging from 150,000 to 250,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based incentives may be offered.
