Job Overview

The IoT Solutions Engineer will design, develop, and deploy end‑to‑end IoT architectures that enable real‑time monitoring and control of GE’s energy and industrial assets in Ethiopia. Working closely with cross‑functional teams, the engineer will translate business requirements into scalable hardware and software solutions, integrate sensors, edge devices, and cloud platforms, and ensure robust data security and analytics capabilities. Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement IoT hardware and firmware for sensor networks, edge gateways, and communication modules.
  • Develop cloud‑based data ingestion pipelines using platforms such as AWS IoT, Azure IoT Hub, or GE Predix.
  • Collaborate with electrical and mechanical engineers to integrate IoT solutions into power generation, transmission, and industrial equipment.
  • Perform system testing, validation, and troubleshooting to ensure reliability under Ethiopian environmental conditions.
  • Implement security protocols, including encryption, authentication, and device management, to protect data integrity.
  • Create technical documentation, schematics, and user guides for internal stakeholders and field technicians.
  • Analyze sensor data to generate actionable insights, predictive maintenance alerts, and performance dashboards.
  • Support pilot projects and scale successful prototypes to full‑deployment across multiple sites.
  • Stay current with emerging IoT standards, protocols, and best practices, and recommend continuous improvements.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in embedded C/C++ programming and Python for device firmware.
  • Experience with IoT communication protocols such as MQTT, CoAP, LoRaWAN, and NB‑IoT.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud services (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and data analytics tools.
  • Understanding of electrical power systems, sensors, and industrial automation.
  • Hands‑on experience with Linux/Unix environments and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Excellent problem‑solving abilities and a data‑driven mindset.

Education
