Job Overview

The Energy Economics Analyst will join EY’s Energy Advisory team in Mekelle, focusing on the economic analysis of renewable energy projects, market design, and policy evaluation. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain detailed financial models for solar, wind, hydro, and hybrid renewable energy projects.
  • Perform macro‑economic and sectoral analysis to assess market trends, policy impacts, and investment attractiveness.
  • Prepare cost‑benefit analyses, levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) calculations, and sensitivity studies for client proposals.
  • Support the preparation of investment memoranda, feasibility studies, and regulatory impact assessments.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate technical parameters into economic models.
  • Present findings and recommendations to senior client stakeholders, government officials, and internal partners.
  • Monitor and interpret Ethiopia’s energy policies, tariffs, and incentive schemes to advise on compliance and optimization.
  • Contribute to thought leadership by publishing white papers, articles, and briefing notes on energy economics.

Required Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, VBA, and financial modeling software (e.g., @RISK, PLEXOS).
  • Strong analytical abilities with a solid grasp of econometric techniques and statistical analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of translating complex data into clear insights.
  • Knowledge of Ethiopia’s renewable energy regulatory environment and market structures.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of cross‑functional teams in a fast‑paced advisory setting.
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in Amharic or Tigrinya is an advantage.

Education

A Master’s degree in Economics, Energy Management, Finance, or a closely related discipline is required. Candidates with a Ph.D. in Energy Economics or a professional certification such as CFA, CEA, or PMP will be given additional consideration.

Experience

Applicants must have a minimum of five years of relevant experience in energy economics, renewable energy project finance, or related advisory roles. Experience working with international development agencies, multilateral banks, or large energy utilities in Africa is highly valued.

Salary
