Job Overview
The Senior Insurance Underwriting Analyst will lead the evaluation and pricing of complex insurance risks, develop underwriting guidelines, and support the growth of Allianz’s portfolio in Ethiopia. This role is pivotal in ensuring profitable underwriting while maintaining high standards of customer service and regulatory compliance. The analyst will collaborate with actuarial, claims, and sales teams to design tailored solutions for corporate clients, especially in emerging sectors such as renewable energy, agribusiness, and fintech. Key Responsibilities
- Assess and underwrite large‑scale corporate insurance proposals, ensuring accurate risk evaluation and appropriate pricing.
- Develop and continuously refine underwriting policies, guidelines, and risk appetite statements aligned with Allianz’s global standards.
- Collaborate with actuarial teams to model risk scenarios and forecast loss ratios.
- Provide mentorship and training to junior underwriters, fostering a high‑performance underwriting culture.
- Maintain compliance with Ethiopian insurance regulations and internal audit requirements.
- Prepare detailed underwriting reports and present recommendations to senior management and the board.
- Support business development initiatives by offering technical expertise during client negotiations.
Required Skills
- Strong analytical and quantitative abilities with proficiency in risk modeling tools.
- In‑depth knowledge of commercial lines such as property, casualty, marine, and specialty insurance.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills for interfacing with clients and internal stakeholders.
- Proficiency in underwriting software platforms and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently and lead cross‑functional projects.
- Fluency in English; knowledge of Amharic is an advantage.
Education
A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related discipline is required. A master’s degree or professional certifications such as CPCU, ARM, or equivalent are highly desirable and will be considered an asset during the selection process.
Experience
Minimum of five years of progressive experience in insurance underwriting, preferably within commercial lines. Experience in emerging markets, especially in Africa, and exposure to complex risk structures will be valued.
Salary
The compensation package ranges from 250,000 to 350,000 SSP annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based bonuses, health insurance, pension contributions, and other statutory benefits.
