Job Overview
The Senior Hydrometallurgy Process Engineer will play a critical role in optimizing the chemical extraction processes used to recover valuable metals from ore. This position is based in Semera and requires a deep understanding of leaching, solvent extraction, and electrowinning processes. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring complex metallurgical circuits to ensure maximum efficiency and product purity. This is a high-impact role that directly influences the economic viability of our mining operations. We are looking for a technical expert who can troubleshoot complex chemical reactions and lead a team of junior engineers and technicians in a fast-paced industrial environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and optimize hydrometallurgical processes including leaching, purification, and precipitation stages.
- Monitor real-time process data to identify deviations and implement corrective actions immediately.
- Conduct pilot-scale testing to validate new chemical reagents or process parameters.
- Oversee the management of chemical inventories and ensure safe handling of hazardous materials.
- Collaborate with the geology and mining teams to optimize ore processing based on mineralogical characteristics.
- Lead technical investigations into process inefficiencies or equipment failures.
- Ensure all metallurgical activities comply with international environmental and safety standards.
Required Skills
- Advanced expertise in hydrometallurgical process modeling and simulation software.
- Strong analytical skills for interpreting complex chemical and metallurgical data.
- In-depth knowledge of solvent extraction (SX) and electrowinning (EW) technologies.
- Excellent project management and leadership capabilities.
- Proficiency in technical report writing and presenting findings to senior management.
Education
A Master of Science (MSc) in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a closely related field is mandatory. A PhD in a specialized metallurgical field is highly preferred.
Experience
A minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience in a large-scale hydrometallurgical plant is required. Proven track record in process optimization and troubleshooting in a mining environment is essential. Experience working in remote locations or emerging markets is a significant advantage.
Salary
The monthly salary for this position ranges from 45,000 to 75,000 SSP, depending on the candidate’s expertise and performance during the interview process.
