Job Overview

The Data Privacy Officer will lead Deloitte Ethiopia’s internal and client‑facing privacy initiatives, ensuring compliance with Ethiopian data protection laws, GDPR, and other international standards. This role involves developing privacy policies, conducting impact assessments, and advising senior leadership on risk mitigation strategies. You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including legal, IT, and audit, to embed privacy by design into all service offerings.

As a key member of the Compliance & Risk Management department, you will also support Deloitte’s thought leadership in data privacy, contributing to whitepapers, webinars, and industry conferences. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and maintain comprehensive data privacy policies and procedures aligned with Ethiopian law and international standards.
  • Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) for new projects, services and client engagements.
  • Provide expert guidance to internal teams and clients on privacy‑by‑design principles and regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor legislative developments in data protection and update internal frameworks accordingly.
  • Lead privacy training sessions and awareness campaigns for staff and client personnel.
  • Collaborate with legal counsel to manage data breach response, notification processes and regulatory reporting.
  • Prepare and present privacy risk reports to senior management and audit committees.
  • Support Deloitte’s business development efforts by contributing privacy expertise to proposals and client pitches.

Required Skills

  • In‑depth knowledge of Ethiopian data protection regulations, GDPR, CCPA or similar frameworks.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for drafting policies and delivering trainings.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency with privacy management tools and data mapping software.
  • Project management experience, including the ability to meet tight deadlines.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Law, Information Security, Computer Science, or a related field is required. Professional certifications such as CIPP/E, CIPM, or ISO 27701 are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage.

Experience

Minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in data privacy, compliance, or information security roles. Experience within a professional services environment or consulting firm is preferred, but not mandatory.

Salary

The successful candidate will receive a competitive monthly salary ranging from SSP 250,000 to SSP 350,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based incentives may be offered.
